About Us

Welcome to ‘DWFBA’

Two Beekeeping Associations serve the whole of the area bounded to the North by the Firth of Tay, to the South by the Firth of Forth, to the East by the North Sea and to the West  by a line roughly joining Kincardine and Perth.

The Dunfermline & West Fife Beekeepers Association covers the centre and west of Fife together with Kinross-shire and Clackmannanshire.

The Fife Beekeepers Association serves central and east Fife

Although there are two Associations, there is no fixed boundary between the areas covered by the two Associations. They work closely together, have many members in common and their members are welcome to attend meetings, events and demonstrations.

The Associations are both affiliated to the Scottish Beekeepers’ Association.   https://scottishbeekeepers.org.uk/

Our History

Ther has been an association of beekeepers in the Dunfermline area since 1927.  Originally part of a wider Fife association it became an independent association in 1937 and took the name Dunfermline &  West Fife Beekeepers' Association.  In 1987, in the 50th anniversary year The then president of the association, Dr John Durkacz compiled a booklet laying out the history of the association and also included many (then) contemporary articles which give a fascinating insight into beekeeping in the area 40 years ago.  The booklet is available to download here.
